The DHS secretary calls the move a “major step in the right direction.”
The Department of Homeland Security announced the reinstatement of 56 U.S. Coast Guard members who were discharged during the pandemic for refusing the COVID-19 vaccine. They were also given back pay. In 2021, the Secretary of Defense mandated that all U.S. service members receive the inoculation, which the U.S. Coast Guard also instituted. That mandate was rescinded in January 2023.
DHS Secretary Kristi Noem said, “This is a victory for religious, personal, and medical freedom for all Americans — both in and out of uniform. The… vaccine mandates were unconstitutional, un-American, and a gross violation of personal freedom.“
The secretary added, “This decision to reinstate these members of the Coast Guard is a major step in the right direction.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Secretary Noem to be discerning in her actions and decisions overseeing DHS and its agencies.
- For wisdom for Admiral Lunday as he heads the U.S. Coast Guard.
- For safety for the members of the Coast Guard as they patrol U.S. territorial waters.
